<p>Description</p><p><strong>Summary</strong></p><p>The Controller will support the financial operations of Frost Valley YMCA by managing day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and strengthening internal controls across the organization. This role works closely with the CFO, supervises the Sr. Accountant, and plays a key part in maintaining the financial health of a mission-driven nonprofit serving youth, families, and communities.</p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p><p><strong>Accounting Operations</strong></p><ul><li>Oversee daily accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, and general ledger maintenance.</li><li>Support the monthly and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to GAAP and YMCA financial standards.</li><li>Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and support schedules.</li><li>Assist with fixed asset tracking, depreciation schedules, and capital project accounting.</li></ul><p><strong>Financial Reporting</strong></p><ul><li>Prepare internal financial reports, variance analyses, and departmental summaries for review by the CFO.</li><li>Assist in preparing Board-level financial materials and audit documentation.</li><li>Maintain organized financial records to support transparency and audit readiness.</li></ul><p><strong>Internal Controls & Compliance</strong></p><ul><li>Help implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard Frost Valley YMCA’s assets.</li><li>Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and YMCA policies.</li><li>Support the annual audit process, including preparation of schedules and responding to auditor inquiries.</li></ul><p><strong>Budgeting & Forecasting</strong></p><ul><li>Assist in the development of the annual operating and capital budgets.</li><li>Work with department leaders to gather budget inputs and provide financial guidance.</li><li>Support ongoing forecasting and financial modeling to help leadership make informed decisions.</li></ul><p><strong>Team Support & Collaboration</strong></p><ul><li>Provide guidance and oversight to accounting staff.</li><li>Serve as a resource for program directors and operational teams, helping them understand financial results and processes.</li><li>Promote a culture of accuracy, accountability, and service to internal stakeholders.</li></ul><p><strong>Systems & Process Improvement</strong></p><ul><li>Support improvements to accounting systems, workflows, and reporting tools.</li><li>Assist with ERP enhancements, data cleanup, and automation initiatives.</li><li>Identify opportunities to streamline processes across finance and operations.</li></ul><p><strong>Salary: $75,000 -$95,000 Annually+ Generous Benefits Package</strong></p><p>Requirements</p><p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p><p>Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.</p><p>5-7 years of accounting experience, ideally including nonprofit or fund accounting.</p><p>Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control principles.</p><p>Experience with accounting software and ERP systems; familiarity with Blackbaud or similar nonprofit platforms is a plus.</p><p>Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.</p><p>Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.</p><p><strong>Preferred Attributes</strong></p><p>Experience in a nonprofit, camp, outdoor education, or membership-based organization.</p><p>Commitment to Frost Valley YMCA’s mission and values.</p><p>Ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial staff.</p><p>Proactive, solutions-oriented approach to improving processes and supporting the finance team.</p>
